Pick a first job that builds you, not just one that pays most. A setting with strong onboarding, supervision, and a manageable starting caseload gets you to full productivity faster, which is where the early raises come from.
Ask how and when productivity bonuses start. A lower base with a clear, reachable bonus structure can out-earn a higher flat salary once your panel fills, usually within the first year.
Get your prior psychiatric RN experience priced in. If you worked as a psychiatric or acute-care nurse, say so. It shortens your ramp and supports a higher starting offer, especially for inpatient roles.
