Purdue Global PMHNP Programs

The PMHNP postgraduate certificate is for nurses with a master's degree in nursing or a DNP: 12 courses and at least 48 quarter credit hours, with an average completion time of 1.5 years. BSN-prepared nurses take the PMHNP population focus within Purdue Global's online MSN, which runs 60 to 90 quarter credit hours depending on the specialty. Both ask for a 2.5 GPA and an approved criminal background check.

Purdue Global's DNP is not a route to the PMHNP: the school says it "was not designed for initial certification and licensure for advanced practice registered nurse roles."

Purdue Global charges $420 per quarter credit hour for its master's programs and graduate certificates, plus a $295 resource fee each term. Indiana residents receive a 10 percent tuition reduction on graduate programs, and current service members and veterans receive graduate tuition reductions as well. If a state requires more clinical hours than the program includes, the extension course is tuition-free.

Clinical hours are completed locally with a qualified preceptor, and the coursework includes virtual reality immersive learning experiences rather than campus visits. Graduates may be eligible for either the ANCC or the AANP PMHNP certification exam.

The two programs carry different exclusions, each stated on its own page. Residents of the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Louisiana, New York, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Washington and Guam may not enroll in the certificate. Tennessee residents may not enroll in the MSN at all, and its nurse practitioner focus areas also exclude residents of Hawaii, Louisiana, New York, Oregon, Utah and Guam, with the PMHNP focus excluding the District of Columbia and Washington as well.

Purdue Global's Master's and Post-Graduate APRN Certificate programs hold CCNE accreditation through June 30, 2036.
