Chamberlain University PMHNP Program

Chamberlain's MSN psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner program is 45 specialization credit hours of online coursework, which Chamberlain says can be finished in as few as 2.5 years of full-time study. The 625-hour practicum is completed at approved sites in your own community, with an experienced PMHNP or psychiatrist of your choice as preceptor. Kansas residents need at least 750 practicum hours under a rule that took effect March 1, 2025.

The program requires two in-person visits, each two days, in the Chicago area. The first is an immersion during NR-509 Advanced Physical Assessment, before the practicum starts, where students practice and are evaluated on clinical assessment skills. The second is an intensive review during the NR-668 capstone at the end of the program, focused on preparing for the national board certification exam.

Students choose their preceptor, but they are not on their own: Chamberlain says you "will also be matched with a dedicated team to support you in securing your practicum site and preceptor." Its Practicum Commitment is described as helping ensure students secure the practicum sites and preceptors they need to finish the degree.

Tuition is $760 per credit hour, effective July 2026. Chamberlain's fee schedule adds a student services charge of $200 per session, a $75 course resource fee per course, a $150 background check, fingerprint and drug screen fee, and books and supplies estimated at $75 to $175 per session. Clinical fees vary by state.

Applicants need a BSN or higher, a current, unrestricted RN license valid in the state where they will do the practicum, and a BSN GPA of 3.0. Applicants with a GPA from 2.5 to 2.99 can be considered for provisional acceptance after a free NP placement assessment. Chamberlain confers its online degrees from its main campus in Addison, Illinois, and its Master's program holds CCNE accreditation through December 31, 2034.
